Bamboo Roving : Bast/Viscose
Bamboo is a natural fiber that can be processed either as a naturally occurring bast fiber (bamboo linen) or a regenerated manufactured fiber (bamboo rayon/viscose or lyocell).
Bast bamboo is the long fibrous strands found between the outer bark and inner core of the stem, it has a similar feel to flax and linen and can be used in many of the same applications. It feels courser than viscose but softens with each wash and wear.
Bamboo fiber (viscose) is a kind of regenerated cellulose fiber made from bamboo pulp through patented technology. It is featured with high tenacity and stability, strong durability and good spinnability. It is a natural, green and environment-friendly textile raw material, which is biodegradable and can be blended with other materials such as cotton, hemp, silk, tencel, modal, polyester and spandex, etc.
Bamboo has excellent moisture absorption and permeability, it is comfortable to wear and leaves no perspiration; it is cool in summer and warm in winter. It has anti-bacterial and is resistant to ultraviolet light. It is soft, smooth, and lustrous, with good drape and color fastness.

Where to next?
This black dyed bamboo fiber (and white) can be spun by itself, blended with fine wools or plied into your yarn for nice color effects. Bamboo top is used as a silk substitute if you want the sheen, but not the high cost of silk. Bamboo top is easy to spin and very comfortable to wear even in warmer climates. Nice sheen - easy to dye.
